Skyhawgs hit the road for the kids again.
Thanks to the SkyHawgs for their donation which will take a few kids to Disneyland! This group of active and retired Air Canada pilots raised money for Dreams through their annual “Ride For Dreams”. Formed in 2000, the motorcycling group heads out on a ride each year, offering the pilots a different view from the flight deck and some fun and camaraderie on the open road. This year’s trip saw the SkyHawgs ride east and back west along the Canada-US border. Keep on riding, guys!

Gala Fundraiser Will Have You Dreaming of Paris
It’s our 4th annual Gala For Dreams fundraiser! We had an amazing time last year when a full house of lovely supporters dressed in their finest masquerade masks came out to our Dreams Masquerade Gala, making it a sold-out event. This year you’ll be Dreaming of Paris as we deck out the night in black and white for a fabulous evening of dinner, dancing and auctions with all the Parisienne touches. We can’t wait to bring back the fun to the newly named Pacific Gateway Hotel (formerly the Delta Vancouver Airport), a long time Dreams sponsor. Here we’ll party into the late…
Five Questions With…Melissa Hance, DTF Vancouver President
1. How did you get involved with Dreams Take Flight? I was invited by a coworker to volunteer at a golf tournament back in 2006 and have been hooked ever since! 2. What are some of the fundraising events you participate in? Every single one! From the gala dinner and dance to Fit for Dreams, I am there! 3. Why is Dreams Take Flight important? Because it is one of the few [charities] if any in which our committee is volunteer based and 99.9% of the proceeds of donations goes towards the children and making their dreams come true. We…
New Year’s Message from the President
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a chance to unwind and indulge with family and friends and enjoy the holiday season. Thinking back on 2014 brings a warm smile to my face when I realize how much we achieved together. Through our annual fundraising activities and donations, we raised $100,000 for our 22nd flight to Disneyland. The best part about this is that we all had so much fun doing it! Seeing everyone all glammed up in their masquerade masks for our Gala For Dreams dinner and dance was a highlight of the year, as was taking part…
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and New Year from Dreams Take Flight Vancouver.
Shout out to the IAM
Our friends at Air Canada deliver for us time and time again, whether it’s the Skyhawgs, a group of retired airline pilot motorcycle enthusiasts who raise money for Dreams on their cross-country adventures, or the staff who hit the ice for us each year at our annual hockey tournament. Also contributing to making magical memories for special kids is the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM), who stopped by the Dreams Take Flight Vancouver hockey tournament with a generous donation. They have helped us fill that airplane with happy kids for the past eight years. Thanks again!
Hockey fundraiser a huge success
What a great turnout! A big crowd of hockey fans and Dreams supporters alike came out to the 8th annual Dreams Take Flight Vancouver Charity Hockey Tournament on December 3 for a fun night on the ice, raising $5000 in the process. This surpassed last year’s total of $2315, showing how popular the event grows each year. Air Canada employees from aircrew to ramp attendants laced up their skates to raise money for our upcoming 23rd flight. Organized for the past eight years by Dann Ball and Gord Glover, both Air Canada employees, the hockey tournament brings together airline personnel from…

Dreams Take Flight Vancouver celebrates 22nd flight
At 3:45 am, bright and early in Richmond, BC, more than 100 excited children checked in for a trip of a lifetime at the Air Canada North Hangar. They were greeted by giant inflatable characters, Richmond RCMP, Richmond Firefighters, and the 501st Legion stormtroopers. After spending time with the star guests, the children were outfitted head to toe in bright yellow t-shirts, blue jogging pants and donated running shoes from Sport Chek, all of which they could later bring home in their Dreams backpacks, generously provided by Bentley. Once dressed up in their Dreams uniform, they boarded charter buses from Perimeter Transportation…
$25,000 raised at Golf for Dreams
The final figure is in: our 11th Annual Golf For Dreams Lori Fergusson Memorial Tournament fundraiser raised $25,000! We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day on July 9th when scores of eager golfers hit the Richmond Country Club’s golf course to raise money for Dreams Take Flight Vancouver. Some were serious players, others were just there for some fun on the beautiful green, but the main reason for coming out was to benefit our 22nd flight to Disneyland later this year. Representatives from our loyal supporters like JRfm were there to greet players throughout the day, along with…
Remembering our fearless leader
The 11th Annual Golf For Dreams Lori Fergusson Memorial Tournament is more than just a day of playing golf. Along with raising money to send special children to Disneyland, it also honours our late friend and founder of the Dreams Take Flight Vancouver chapter, Lori Fergusson. Lori was an amazing inspiration to us as a leader and a fellow volunteer. She was tireless in her quest to get each flight off the ground year after year. Even after being diagnosed with a brain tumour, Lori still continued to give 100% to Dreams. It was after our 16th flight that Lori’s battle…
fit for dreams a hit
All that hard work paid off! The first Fit For Dreams with Maki Performance Training raised more than $4000, enough to take five kids to Disneyland. More than 70 people took time out of their Saturday morning to cross-train and do yoga with the MakiFit crew. Maki Performance Training (MPT) is a community-based, physical training studio dedicated to creating healthy change in people’s lives. Those who came out bright and early felt the encouragement from the MPT team, who offer a sense of togetherness and belonging that helps them achieve their personal fitness goals. The drive to raise money for special kids…
Richmond RCMP donates to Dreams
The Richmond RCMP generously donated $500 toward our flight this year, which will treat special children to a day of fun and adventure at Disneyland. We are fortunate to receive support from the Richmond RCMP all year round, including the day of flight. Each year when we set out to depart Vancouver International Airport for Los Angeles, some fine members of the RCMP are always there to see the kids off, along with Safety Bear, who is always a hit with the crowd at the gate. See you in October when we take off on our 22nd plane ride to…
Cadets’ coin drive shows a little goes a long way
The 637 Arrow Squadron Air Cadets from South Burnaby presented Dreams Take Flight Vancouver President Melissa Hance with a cheque for $500, all from collecting coins. A coin drive, led by Sgt. Gabriel Devries, resulted in the generous donation which will go towards sponsoring a child to Disneyland this year. The money was raised by the cadets bringing in spare change from home or from friends and family. The South Burnaby Squadron has more than 150 young people between the ages of 12 and 18 years old who participate in training and activities designed to promote strong community minded citizens and…
